Pets

Pets assist the player in combat, and are an integral part of game play. They supply the player with an additional source of damage output, as well as an additional target to take a monsters attention off the players themselves.

You will need to be within ten levels of your pet's level in order to summon it, but first you must meet the minimum summon level for the pet which depends on how strong the pet is.

Acquiring a Pet:

To acquire your first pet, you must slay monsters. Monsters will have yellow or red names (depending on whether or not they are aggressive). The monster below is found, among many others, in Rainbow Valley: an area specifically designed to help players acquire new pets (all monsters in this area are labeled as a Pet type monster, and yield pets much more often than monsters found in the regular world).

Occasionally, after a monster is slain, a version of that monster will appear for you to capture. Versions of monsters that can be captured will have green names. They will also be labeled as -Catchable- and the player's cursor will display a lasso (as opposed to the sword icon you would see displayed over an attackable monster). Click the lasso over the monster and your character will begin to capture the pet.

After successfully capturing a monster, you will receive a notification and your new pet will now be available in your Pet Tab (Default key " X").

Alternatively, you can go to the Marketplace, buy some Starwish Charms and use them on Zodiac cards to get Zodiac Pets or Zodiac Pet skill books. Doing this requires real money and also the chance of getting them is VERY LOW.

Pet Skills and Stats:

As your pet levels up (through experience gained from killing monsters), you will have to distribute attribute points. The Pet Tab is where you will go to do this as well.

To learn new skills for your pet, you will need to speak with Ligg in Atlantis (Location 112,190).

First, choose to Unlock Pet Skill Slot. Select the pet you wish to unlock skill slots for, place a Seal Removal Stone (these can be obtained from the Marketplace) in the unlock stone slot, and select Remove Seal. This will open up room to learn new skills.

(No screen shot here because there are still UI errors in this section)

To learn new skills, you will need to purchase the skill from Didier in Atlantis (Location 108,194). They are also available in the Marketplace.

After you have both opened up free slots, and have acquired a corresponding pet skill, you may speak to Ligg and choose to Learn Pet Skills. To learn a skill, select your pet, select the open slot you wish to use, place, select the desired skill in the skill book slot, and then finally select "Learn" (Note the small fee that will go along with this process).

Fighting With Your Pet:

To fight with your pet, first you must summon it. You can do this via the Pet Tab by selecting the Pet, and then selecting the Summon button.

Afterwards, you're free to go out and fight monsters to your heart's content. Awesome! Rainbow Valley:

Rainbow Valley is a special area designed for pets. To gain access, you must speak to Ludia in Atlantis Square (Location 99,194).

Select Teleport, and then select to go to Rainbow Valley. In Rainbow Valley, you will find many monsters that are designed to yield interesting pet opportunities. Additionaly, it is also the location of the NPC Gadro (Location 135,100). Gadro will allow you to Meld and Boost your pets.

Pet Boost:

Speaking to Gadro will allow you to choose Pet Boost. Boosting your pet will require a Magic Stone of Growth, which can be found in Dragon Island during the corresponding event. You can also use a Catalyst of Growth, found in the Marketplace, to increase the rate of successful Boosting. After a successful Boost, your pet's Growth stat will increase (meaning that a higher ranked pet will gain more stats, per level, than a lower ranked pet). This will be evident in his displayed Boost level, as well as his specific Growth Rate.

A second way to Boost a pet, is to use another pet instead of gems. To do this, select Pet instead of the default selection of items:

This will bring up the Pet Boosting UI. For the Boost to be successful, the Auxiliary Pet must have a higher Summon Level than the Target Pet. Note that the Essence Level of the Auxiliary Pet must be above 0, while the Target Pet's essence may remain 0. (As of this time, we don't know how to legitimately raise pet Essence.) (No Meld Pet section yet, because the process doesn't seem to be functioning.) Pet Stash:

Gardo will also allow you to store additional pets by selecting Pet Stash. Open up this menu after speaking with him, and select the pets you wish to stow away. This will free up more room in your pet tab so that you may collect more pets without having to discard previously obtained pets. You can increase your Pet Stash size with the Pet Store License (Presumably from the Marketplace.).

Pet Reincarnation:

All of these tasks are performed at Ligg in Atlantis Square (The same person you spoke to learn Pet Skills). To Start with Reincarnation: You will have the option to select Reincarnate Pet after speaking to Ligg. To Reincarnate your pet, you will have to select which pet you wish to reincarnate, insert the desired reincarnation item (the Medium Rebirth Stone and the Advanced Rebirth Stone are available from the Marketplace), and select "Reincarnate".

Reincarnating your pet does a number of things. The goal of reincarnating your pet is to raise its Quality, Mood, and base Growth Rate. Be warned though, if you reincarnate a pet multiple times, the Growth Rate may fluctuate and won't always result in a higher value. Also, it is important to note that your pet will be reduced back to level 1, and his Boost Level and Fortify level will be reset.

Pet Fortification:

Ligg will also allow you to fortify your pet. Fortifying your pet will increase your pet's combat stats. Select Fortify Pet while speaking to Ligg and the Fortification UI will appear. You will need to select the pet you wish to Fortify, and be in possession of a Pet Gem (Both Basic Pet Gems and Medium Pet Gems can be acquired from the Marketplace). After you have done this, simply select Fortify to complete the process. Be careful, different Fortify levels have variable chances of succeeding. Fortification levels range from level 0 - 15.

Pet Decomposition:

Lastly, Ligg will allow you to perform Pet Decomposition, also known as Pet Crystallization. Pet Decomposition/Crystallization is a way to turn a pet into valuable items used for Pet Boosting and Fortification. Speak with Ligg and select Decompose Pet. Select the pet you wish to crystallize and select "Crystallize". As the UI states, higher Quality pets will yield higher quality items after the process is complete.

Your Pet's Stats:

It's important to know what all the information listed on your pet tab means. To start, the Fundamental and Combat stats:

  • Vitality: HP
  • Strength: Physical attack
  • Spirit: MP
  • Intellect: Magic Attack
  • Dexterity: Accuracy, Evasion, Critstrike

Your pet also has many non-combat oriented stats. These are:

  • Loyalty: Your pet's loyalty is how much it is willing to follow you. If your pet dies in combat, the loyalty rating will drop. If your pet's loyalty is below 60, you will not be able to summon it. To increase your pet's loyalty after a death, you will need to purchase a Trainer License from Reis in Atlantic Square (Location 103,194)
  • Growth: Determines how much your pet's stats will increase when your pet gains a level. The higher the Growth rate, the greater the increase.
  • Mood: A specific bonus to your pet's combat abilities. The moods are: Naughty, Serious, Reckless, Excited, Cowardly, and Calm.
  • Naughty: Increases attack rate by 15%
  • Serious: Increases Accuracy and Evasion by 10%
  • Reckless: Increases Critstrike rate by 3%
  • Excited: Increases physical attack and magic attack by 5%
  • Cowardly: Increases physical defense and magic defense by 10%
  • Calm: Increases HP and MP by 10%
  • Strength(only for Generation II Pets): Increases Vitality, Spirit, Strength, Dexterity and Intellect by 5%
  • Quality: The quality of pet ranges from Crude to Perfect, and affects the Growth stat.
  • Fortify: Ranges from 0 to +15, and increases combat stats by a certain percentage.
  • Boost: Increases the Growth of a pet beyond that of its base value at any given Quality and level.
  • Summon Level: The earliest level a player can summon the pet.
  • Essence: Signifies your pet's potential to participate in Boosting using other pets as opposed to stones.
  • Title: A title signifies how "Awesome" your pet is. Enjoy the compliment.
  • Power: A signification of the overall grade of your pet. Power can be uploaded to the realm ladder to be compared to other players' pets.

(Note: There is also a "feed" option in the Pet Tab, but I have not been able to find pet specific food from the vendors in Atlantis Square. Potions are available for MP and HP. So unlike in other PW games where feeding was used to recover MP, I'm not entirely sure what that function does.)
